This type of wedding arrangement is quite unusual from the Nigerian cultural perspective.
Geoffrey Ogunlesi’s father, Adebayo Ogunlesi, is a Nigerian of Yoruba extraction, with ancestral roots in Ijebu, Ogun State. However, Geoffrey’s mother is not Nigerian, and he was raised in a society where marriage traditions and cultural expectations differ considerably from those in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, it is not forbidden for a man to marry a woman older than himself. Such marriages exist, but a 15-year age difference, particularly where the woman is older, is still considered unusual in many Nigerian communities.
What makes this particular marriage even more surprising is the reported involvement of Jennifer Meyer’s former husband, Hollywood actor Tobey Maguire, who officiated the wedding ceremony.
Imagine a Nigerian woman getting married to another man, with her former husband standing before the couple to conduct the marriage ceremony!
In our society, such an arrangement would raise eyebrows and generate considerable discussion. Some Nigerians might even question the seriousness of the relationship because of the unusual role played by the former husband.
However, cultural values differ. What appears strange or unacceptable in one society may be perfectly normal in another.
Marriage is a personal decision, and the most important considerations should be love, mutual understanding, commitment and respect.
Nevertheless, I cannot help wondering how Geoffrey’s Nigerian relatives would react to this unusual wedding arrangement.

AMERICAN JEWELLERY DESIGNER JENNIFER MEYER WEDS GEOFFREY OGUNLESI IN LAVISH HAWAII CEREMONY
American jewellery designer Jennifer Meyer, 49, has reportedly married Geoffrey Ogunlesi, 34, the son of prominent Nigerian billionaire businessman and investment banker Adebayo Ogunlesi.
The couple exchanged marital vows on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii, United States.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the ceremony was the reported involvement of Meyer’s former husband, Hollywood actor Tobey Maguire, who officiated the wedding.
The ceremony came less than three weeks after Meyer and Maguire reportedly finalised their divorce on September 21, 2026.
The former couple separated in 2016 after several years of marriage and subsequently filed for divorce in 2020.
WHO IS GEOFFREY OGUNLESI?
Geoffrey Ogunlesi is an American entertainment executive of Nigerian descent.
He is the founder and chief executive officer of The Ogunlesi Group, a Los Angeles-based entertainment management company established in 2022.
His company represents several prominent entertainers, including rapper Young Thug, singer Charlieonnafriday, Broadway performer Myles Frost and Alabama Barker.
Unlike his father, who built his fortune in international finance and infrastructure investment, Geoffrey chose to pursue a career in the American music and entertainment industry.
He previously worked with Warner Music Group before spending several years at 300 Entertainment, where he participated in identifying and developing musical talent.
He attended The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut and later graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts.
HIS NIGERIAN FAMILY BACKGROUND
Geoffrey is the son of Adebayo Ogunlesi, a Nigerian-born billionaire lawyer, investment banker and internationally recognised infrastructure investor.
His grandfather, Professor Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, was a distinguished Nigerian physician widely recognised as the country’s first professor of medicine.
Adebayo Ogunlesi established Global Infrastructure Partners in 2006 and developed the company into a major international infrastructure investment organisation.
In 2024, global investment giant BlackRock acquired Global Infrastructure Partners in a transaction valued at approximately $12.5 billion.
Following the acquisition, Adebayo Ogunlesi assumed a senior leadership position at BlackRock.
His estimated personal fortune stood at approximately $2.6 billion in October 2026, according to the report.
HOW THE COUPLE’S RELATIONSHIP BEGAN
Jennifer Meyer and Geoffrey Ogunlesi reportedly began their romantic relationship in 2023.
They made their first major public appearance together at the Baby2Baby Gala in November of that year.
Their relationship subsequently developed, and in August 2024, Meyer publicly announced their engagement through an Instagram photograph.
