Former governorship candidate in Ondo State, Olusola Oke, has expressed that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is ‘rapidly responding to treatments’ admist “wicked and ungodly” death rumours.
Speculations about Akeredolu’s health have been spreading in recent months. The Ondo House of Assembly recently received a letter from the governor, explaining that he would be on medical leave abroad for 21 days, starting from June 7, 2023, until July 6, 2023. During his absence, the governor instructed Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the deputy governor, to act in his place.
Oke, in response to these developments, denounced the spreading of false death rumors, emphasizing that it is an attempt to incite fear in the state. He stated, “As mortals, we can fall ill. The governor, like any human being, can fall ill. When illness comes, we seek medical treatment and take deserving rest. This the governor has done and is rapidly responding to treatment.”
He further condemned those behind the orchestrated rumor mill, describing their actions as wicked and inhumane. Oke pointed out that these rumormongers habitually create false alarms about the governor’s death, causing panic and tension. However, he commended the people of the state for responding with prayers and empathy instead of panic.
“Thank God, instead of morbid panic, the people of the state have responded with prayers and empathy. Daily, they pray for the governor and God, the giver of life, has indeed stood by him, his family and his well-wishers” He said.
While seaking to the rumour peddlers, he said “For those who took pleasure in the pains of others by deliberately manufacturing rumours of the death of others, let me remind them that God has recompense for those who assume his position. Life belongs to him and him only.”
