Rebuild Nigeria International Forum has said that the posthumous conferment of GCFR on late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola was belated by the fact that the present government of Rtd. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari had not deemed the honour due before now, despite having been in power for close to four years.

This was part of a recent release by the group which was made available to our correspondent by the association’s General Secretary, Mr. Ifeanyi Chiazor.

The group accepted that Abiola truly deserved the honour but wondered why the incumbent only decided to give it at a time very close to the 2019 general elections.

“While we heartily appreciate that Abiola was finally honoured with the needful, we strongly hold that it was awarded with the intent to woo Nigerians towards 2019. Buhari came into power in 2015 and since then, not less than two June 12 celebrations had been held, why didn’t he before now decide to honour the late sage and business mogul with the award?”, the statement read.

“We want to advise the present government to steer clear from continuous deception of Nigerians which is akin to ” throwing banana at the monkey” in order to clinch its loyalty. The present crop of Nigerians are no fools to fall for cheap baits from an undeserving dispensation”, it further read.

The forum also declared its unshaken loyalty to the former Vice President and Presidential hopeful under the PDP, Waziri Atiku Abubakar stressing that in his crusade in favour of national restructuring, reference had severally been made to the importance of giving due honour to a man who was the acclaimed winner of the June 12 presidential elections, the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history.
