The National Economic Council (NEC) assured on Thursday that the scarcity of fuel will be a thing of the past come next week.

This assurance was given at the NEC meeting on Thursday by the Group General Manager of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mele Kyari.

Kyari told the council that 30 vessels of Premium Motor Spirit are expected to berth at Apapa port in Lagos between now and the end of this month.

In his words “30 vessels to deliver an additional supply of 2.3 Billion litres of PMS into the country till month-end February 2022.

Despite obstacles including as pipeline damage, product theft, and cross-border smuggling of PMS, the NNPC has continued to produce and distribute adequate petroleum products to the country as the supplier of last resort.

The NNPC boss stated that the company’s strategy is to restore stability in PMS supply and distribution by increasing incoming PMS supplies, recertification, and release of in-country PMS stock, and improving distribution management, according to the situation report on the queues seen at filling stations as of Thursday.

The council decided to promote the expansion of Nigeria’s automotive industry by increasing the use of locally produced automobiles.

While briefing the council, despite its potentials, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, said the local automotive industry has been severely hampered by a number of issues, including low demand for locally assembled cars and a lack of government patronage that could have aided assemblers in achieving economies of scale.
