The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against using Google map while driving, saying it should be set before driving. Not only this but also warned against messaging, typing and listening to music with phone while driving.
Mr Aliyu Ahmad, the Root Commander (RC), Lugbe, Unit Command, said this during the corps Easter Special Package Sensitisation Campaign on Sunday in Abuja.
Ahmad said that the use of Google map was an offence on the road which attracted penalties, including psychological evaluation.
Some members of the congregation, asking why FRSC would frown at the use of Google map? He respond by saying, ‘it can only be used before the vehicle is in motion’, the use of phone is still a condemnable offence’.
“We used to have challenges for some who park and claim they want to call.
“They must park off the shoulder, and not by the side of the road.
“This is festive period and there is massive movement of vehicle, so let’s try to avoid distractions on the road,” Ahmad said.
When asked whether the corps permits overloading by taxis plying FCT, Ahmad said “we do not permit sitting of four fares at the back and two in the front”.
