NDLEA Arrests Woman with 80 Pellets Of Cocaine At Abuja Airport

A woman headed for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia has been arrested by by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to a statement signed on Monday by the Agency’s Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the woman was arrested for ingesting 80 pellets of cocaine.

The 46-year-old Mrs. Adisa Afusat Olayinka who lives in Ibafo, Ogun state hails from Ilorin, in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

She said she was encouraged to traffic the drugs by a woman she met during her last Umrah trip to Saudi Arabia in 2019. She added that she needed to raise N7million for In Vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment due to pressure from people because she’s been married for 28 years without a child due to fertility challenges.

We Are Monitoring Emerging Evidence On Omicron Variant – NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), says it is monitoring emerging evidence on Omicron variant and its implication, to inform Nigeria’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Director General, NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, mentioned this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday in Abuja.

While the disease centre noted that no death has, however, been reportedly linked to the new variant, it confirmed its high mutations and transmissibilities, noting that a total of 126 genomes of the variant has been identified so far.

The Centre, however, urged Nigerians to ensure strict adherence to the proven public health and social measures in place, which are enforceable by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 (PSC-COVID-19), through the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulations 2021.

NDLEA Intercepts 12,385kg Drugs Smuggled Into Lagos On Waterways

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted 12,385 kilograms of Loud Cannabis, a strong variant of illicit weed imported from a neighboring country over the weekend.

According to NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the operatives who were acting on credible intelligence stayed on guard knowing that 12, 385 pellets of Loud Cannabis were to be brought in from the West African country through the ocean.

N his words he said: “Over 50 narcotic officers stormed the beach on Saturday 27th November 2021, recovered the consignments along with two long trucks, a Toyota Sienna bus, and arrested three suspects. Those arrested include Abdulkadri Zakari, 24; Ka’abu Sausu, 45, and Lawrence Adie, 27”.

Twitter Accepts Conditions To Resume Operations In Nigeria

Twitter has agreed to all the conditions set by the Federal Government of Nigeria for it to resume operations in the country.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus on Sunday during an interview with Channels Television, he said that the committee set up by the Federal Government to review the operations of Twitter has made significant progress.

Keyamo, who is also a member of the committee, said the Federal Government suspended the platform to recalibrate the relationship between both parties.

Terrorists Storms Plateau Correctional Centre

Suspected terrorists on Sunday attacked the Plateau State Correctional Centre, in Jos. The Jos Correctional Centre is situated in the heart of Jos City which is not far from the police headquarters.

The terrorists, who pretended to be on a visit to the Centre, opened fire at the facility as they gained entrance.

This incidence was confirmed by Military Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku, who also said that personnel of the joint task force, have been deployed to the facility.

Evans’ Co-Defendant, Chiemeka Arinze Dies In NCS Custody

Chiemeka Arinze, one of the co-defendants in the alleged kidnap trial of Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has died in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Arinze was charged alongside, Evans, Joseph Emeka and Udeme Upong with the attempted kidnap of Chief Vincent Obianodo, the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors.

According to his death certificate obtained by NAN on Monday, Arinze passed away at 9.08 p.m. on November 26 as a result of cardiopulmonary arrest.

According to officials of the correctional facilities who spoke under anonymity, Arinze, who was battling ill health, was rushed from the hospital of the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre to a General Hospital on Friday where he died.

Canada Detects Omicron Variant In Two Nigerian Travelers

Canada Minister for health Jean-Yves Duclos said in a statement on Sunday that the country has detected its first cases of the new Omicron strain of Covid, in two people who had traveled recently to Nigeria.

The government of Ontario confirmed that the two cases are in the capital Ottawa. Both patients are in isolation while public health authorities trace their possible contacts, said Federal and Ontario provincial officials.

The variant which was first detected in Southern Africa last week has become a major concern to governments around the world as they rush to contain the spread.

Gunmen Shoot Kogi Commissioner, Abducts Others

Suspected kidnappers have shot Kogi State commissioner for Environment, Adewale Omofaiye.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening between Ikoyi and Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state while Omofaiye was in transit.

He was on his way to Lokoja, the state capital when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle and a bullet hit him in the leg.

Although the commissioner escaped being kidnapped, an eyewitness said the assailants abducted some other road users and took them into a nearby bush.

Woman Murdered At Church Entrance in Ondo

A woman, Mrs. Veronica Dare has been murdered at the entrance of a Deeper Life Bible Church in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This was confirmed by The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami on Monday in a telephone conversation with Channels Television.

She was said to have been murdered while going to the church to perform her duty as a sanitation worker in the church.

The remains of the woman have been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Iwaro by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

Fire Destroys workshop, spare parts building in Ladipo market, Lagos

A furniture workshop and an auto spare parts building in Ladipo market, Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State have been razed by fire.

The fire started on Sunday night from the furniture workshop and according to emergency operators, it continued till Monday morning, affecting the spare parts building.

Emergency operators including Nigeria National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), State Fire and Federal Fire Services Service, and Police are at the scene.

No casualty has been recorded so far, as operations are ongoing.

Founder of Coscharis Group, Cosmos Maduka loses wife

Mrs Charity Maduka, wife of Nigerian billionaire businessman, President and Chairman of the Coscharis Group, Cosmas Maduka is dead.

According to close family sources, Mrs Maduka died on Saturday afternoon after suffering a stroke.

Mrs Maduka is the Vice-president of the Coscharis Group since its inception as the co-owner of the company.

Cosmas and Charity got married in 1977. The union is blessed with three sons; Cosmas Jr Maduka, Jonathan Maduka, Peter K. Maduka and a daughter, Charity Ngozi Maduka.

Subsidy removal will worsen Nigerians’ suffering —PFN Urges FG

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, in a statement issued on Sunday, has told the Federal Government that removing fuel subsidy will aggravate the suffering of Nigerians who are already underprivileged.

The President of PFN, Bishop Wale Oke, urged the government to defer the proposed policy in order not to worsen the hardship and trigger crisis in the country.

He mentioned that the implementation of the policy would lead to hike in the price of fuel and this would have a ripple effect on prices of goods and services.

Oke urged the government to be wary of policies that could jeopardize the conduct of the 2023 general elections, insisting that all hands must be geared towards steering the wheel of the country to safety.
