Kunle Afolayan announces partnership with Netflix to launch film academy
Multiple-award Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced a partnership with Netflix and the School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) to introduce film and TV Industry training in Africa. The filmmaker made the announcement in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
According to him, KAP Film and Television Academy will be hosting post-production workshops In Nigeria.

Kunle also said that registration for the editing and sound post-production classes is ongoing. He noted that the E-learning class will launch in a few days.
Just In: National Assembly Passes Harmonised Electoral Bill, Retains Direct, Indirect, Consensus Modes Of Primaries
The harmonized version of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill has now been passed by the National Assembly.
The electoral bill was harmonized after the Senate and House of Representatives agreed to amend clause 84 of the document. This bill was passed by the Senate during the plenary on Tuesday includes direct, indirect, and consensus methods of nominating candidates by political parties.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan said both chambers have agreed in the harmonized bill to give a clear and sufficient definition for each mode of primaries and how they are to be conducted.
The Senate’s decision came after an amendment by the conference committee which recommended that the direct primary mode of elections be eradicated.
Court remands Jaruma in prison over clash with Regina Daniels, Ned Nwoko
An Abuja Upper Area Court has remanded self-acclaimed sex therapist Hauwa Mohammed aka Jaruma in prison over her clash with actress Regina Daniels and her husband Ned Nwoke.
The police charged Jaruma with false news publication, intimidation and defamation of character.
The area court judge, Ismailia Abdullahi, adjourned until Friday for the bail ruling. He also fixed the trial for February 23.
Abdullahi directed that the defendant should be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, overruling police requests that she be held with them.
Dangote remains Africa’s Richest man for 11th consecutive year
Aliko Dangote has maintained his position as the richest man in Africa, with a net worth of $12.1 billion. This was reported in the 2022 edition of the Forbes’ Top 10 Africa’s Billionaires List.
According to the report, for the 11th year in a row, Aliko Dangote of Nigeria is the continent’s richest person with an estimated $13.9 billion, up from $12.1 billion in 2021.
This, according to the magazine, followed a 30 percent increase in the stock price of Dangote Cement, his most valuable asset.
The report added that Africa’s billionaires were richer than they had been in years, despite the global pandemic.
Once Again EFCC Arraigns Fani-Kayode On Amended Fraud Charge
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has re-arraigned former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on a 17-count charge of fraud.
The former minister was re-arraigned on Monday alongside Nenadi Usman, former minister of state for finance; Danjuma Yusuf, a former national chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and a company, Joint-Trust Dimensions Nigeria Limited, on charges bordering on conspiracy and unlawful retention of funds.
The defendants pleaded not guilty. In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked the court for a trial date.
After a back and forth between opposing counsels on bail conditions, Daniel Osiagor, the judge, granted the prayers of the defence and held that the defendants should enjoy the existing bail. The case was adjourned till March 17 for trial.
Nigeria’s First Professor Of Architecture, Ekundayo Adeyinka is dead
First Professor of Architecture in Nigeria and Sub Saharan Africa, professor Ekundayo Adeyinka Adeyinka is dead. The family of the Emeritus professor of architecture announced this in the obituary that was shared online today.
He died in the early hours of the 25th of January, 2022 following a brief illness.
Adeyinka became a professor In 1975, at Ahmadu Bello University, a promotion that made him the first professor of architecture in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
He was also a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian Institute of Architects, African Union of Architects and American Institute of Planners.
Lagos Suspends NURTW, places RRS on alert
Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, suspended the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) activities at Eyin Eyo, Church Street and Idumota Bridge, in Lagos Island, indefinitely.
The indefinite suspension became necessary following violence in those areas.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka announced the suspension.
Fayinka stated that the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, has been directed to deploy Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) on Idumota Bridge to deter motorists from driving against traffic in compliance with traffic rules and regulations. He added that RRS, in collaboration with the State Police Command, will ensure safety of lives in the area.
Subsidy removal: Lawan urges NLC, TUC to shelve planned protests
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to “abort” the planned protests against the Federal Government’s proposed removal of fuel subsidy.
He made the appeal on Monday when he met with the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, over the planned removal of subsidy on petroleum products by the Federal Government.
Lawan described the planned nationwide protest as “totally unnecessary”. He faulted the timing for the planned removal of subsidy on petroleum products.
He stated that in as much as the administration and management of subsidy on petroleum products are flawed, President Muhammadu Buhari-led government believes that sufficient planning must be carried out before its eventual removal.
Army Dissolves Parliament, Takes Over Burkina Faso Government
Soldiers in Burkina Faso on Monday announced on state television that they have seized power in the West African country, following a mutiny over the civilian president’s failure to contain an Islamist insurgency.
“MPSR, which includes all sections of the army, has decided to end President Kabore’s post today”, A junior officer, read on National Television in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.
He also announced the suspension of the constitution, the dissolution of the government and parliament, and the closure of the country’s borders from midnight Monday.
The statement said the takeover had been carried out without violence and that those detained were at a secure location; adding that the new Patriotic Movement for Preservation and Restoration (MPSR) would re-establish “constitutional order” within a “reasonable time”, adding that a nationwide nightly curfew would be enforced.
They also said they had closed the country’s borders and promised a “return to constitutional order” within a “reasonable time”.
Ex-Lagos SSG Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya is dead
Former Secretary to the Lagos State Government Princess Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya has died on Tuesday at the age of 74 after a protracted illness.
She was reportedly in a coma for a few days at the Lagos State University (LASUTH) before her death.
Adeniran-Ogunsanya served as SSG under former Governor Babatunde Fashola between 2007 and 2011. She was also an apex leader of the Lagos4Lagos movement which recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Visioner of the movement Olajide Adediran, aka Jandor, wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday: “You didn’t die a coward…you led our battle from the front, and waited patiently to see us cross over before leaving, even though you have been battling with the pains for months.
“Mum, thank you for seeing us this far…we will surely miss you. Rest well Princess Adenrele Oyebo Oyetokunbo Adeniran-Ogunsanya.”
