Troops Kill 49 Terrorists, 863 Others Surrender – Defence HQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday said its troops killed 49 terrorists and bandits across theaters of operations while 863 terrorists surrendered in the last two weeks.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, made this known while giving an update on operations of the armed forces on Thursday in Abuja.

Onyeuko said troops of ”Operation Hadin Kai”, neutralised 37 terrorist, arrested 17 and recovered 21 assorted arms and 117 rounds of different calibres of ammunition. He added that four gun trucks were captured from the terrorists while 16 abducted civilians were rescued within the period.

Onyeuko said the 863 terrorists and their families comprising 136 adult males, 251 adult females and 476 children surrendered to troops. He said they surrendered at different locations including Banki, Bama, Dikwa, Gwoza and Gamboru towns in Borno within the period.

Ahmad Lawan To Commission Multimillion Naira Sports Complex In Akwa Ibom

All is set for the Senate President of the Federal Republic, Senator Ahmad Lawan, to commission a multimillion naira sports complex facilitated by Senator Bassey Akpan, representing Akwa Ibom North East senatorial district.

The multipurpose composite sports facility located in Ifa Ikot Akpan community, Uyo local government area is among constituency projects to be commissioned during a thanksgiving service to be held over the weekend in Uyo.

The multimillion naira complex among other facilities has a standard football field, basket ball pitch, lawn tennis court, and a 1,500 capacity event centre. The complex also has an ICT hub, a dedicated transformer and water treatment facility. The other components of the project include: a bar, restaurant and a solar power support system.

According to a statement endorsed by the chairman central planning committee of the project, Chief Okon Osung and made available to FirstNigeriaTv correspondent reveals that the mini sports complex would also serve as a centre for promoting sporting activities among the constituents as well as other recreational activities.

Buhari Launches Three Road Projects In Kaduna

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday launched three road projects in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The roads, which included Katsina road, Dan haya road and the Emir Palace road, were constructed under the Kafanchan Urban Renewal Project of the state government.

Under the Urban Renewal Project of the state government, 21 roads totaling 26.3km were either reconstructed, expanded or dualised in Kafanchan, at a total cost of  N12.8 billion.

Commissioning the projects on Thursday, the President commended the State Governor for embarking on projects aimed at making Kaduna great again. He pledged the Federal Government’s resolve to continue to initiate programs that will impact on the ordinary Nigerians.

FEC Okays N56b Projects For FCT

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the sum of N56.2 billion for two projects in the Federal Capital Territory.

FCT Minister, Malam Muhamad Bello disclosed this to newsmen at the end of the meeting of the Council which was held on Wednesday in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to FCT, Anthony Ogunleye, said the projects included, “the full scope development of the FCT Highway 105 (Kuje Road) from Airport Expressway to Kuje Junction (Stage 1), at the cost of N54,946,909,160.04 and the construction of access road and car Park for the Abuja Light Rail Gbazango Station (Lot 7) at the sum of N1,291,568,845.33.”

While providing insight into the justification for the two projects, the Minister explained that the construction of the road from Kuje to Airport Expressway became necessary because the existing 2-lane single carriage way road is grossly inadequate to carry the current traffic and presently in a deplorable condition requiring frequent rehabilitation.

APC Releases Schedule Of Activities For National Convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the timetable/schedule of activities for its February 26 National Convention.

The Party’s National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe, disclosed the development in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the schedule of activities ahead of the party’s national convention is as seen below: “Receiving the interim report of the National Reconciliation Committee, January 31, 2022. “Consideration and adoption of Reports of State Congresses – February 2, 2022. “Inauguration of the State Executives – February 03, 2022.

“Sale of forms to all aspirants vying for National Offices at the APC National Secretariat, February 14, 2022. “Submission of completed forms and accompanying documents at the APC National Secretariat on or before February 19, 2022. “Publication of Sub-Committees – February 19, 2022. “Screening of all aspirants vying for National Offices – February 20 – February 22.

“Screening Appeals to hear and resolve complaints arising from the screening exercise – February 23, 2022. “Accreditation of all statutory and elected delegates to the National Convention – February 24 to February 25, 2022.

INEC Alerts Against Double Registration, Says PVCs Remain Valid

The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned Nigerians against registering for Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) more than once, saying it is an offence under the law.

The Commission was reacting to a claim by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that Permanent Voters’ Cards have expired. Tinubu had made the claim while addressing women leaders of the APC who paid him a visit in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The former governor of Lagos State also lamented that there had been a decline in the number of eligible voters in recent times.

Reacting, Chief Technical Adviser to the Chairman of INEC, Prof Bolade Eyinla, stated that PVCs previously registered remain valid. Eyinla advised those who already have PVCs not to bother about registering for another one.

Buhari Present at Gambia Presidential Inauguration

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Banjul attended the second term inauguration of Adama Barrow as President of Gambia.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in a statement issued on Wednesday, said, Buhari’s presence at the inauguration was a mark of Nigeria’s strong commitment towards the entrenchment of democracy and good governance in The Gambia and the West African sub region.

Explaining further, the significance of the President’s attending the event, the statement said it equally underlined the affinity between Nigeria and The Gambia as well as an indication of the value that Nigeria placed on the need to strengthen democratic governance, the rule of law and promotion of fundamental human rights in the sub-region.

APC debunks Zoning National Chairmanship, Other Positions, said its Fake News

 The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday said that the party has not taken any position on zoning of offices.

Addressing journalists after Wednesday’s meeting held at the party’s national secretariat, the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Mr John James Akpanudoedehe, said at no time did the committee discuss the zoning arrangement for the national convention.

Akpanudoedehe said, “I am here to debunk the fake news going around on the social media that we have zoned offices. We are yet to meet on the issue of zoning.

“The news and rumour making the rounds are fake news. We never discussed the issue during our deliberations. People should disregard the story because it is fake news.

“It is not true! Rising from a two-day meeting of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) the party reaffirmed that its national convention slated for February.

Gov Emmanuel Promise 100 Vehicles To Nigerian Police

Governor Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has disclosed plans by the state Government to provide not less than 100 vehicles to support mobility in state command.

The governor made the disclosure during a one day working visit by the country’s Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba to commission the Special Protection Unit Base, donated to the Nigeria Police Force, by the Akwa Ibom State Government on Wednesday.

Presenting the property to the IG, Governor Emmanuel declared the facility as overall best, not just in the south south region, but in the country at large.

He noted that the base was designed in line with the concept behind the design of all police formations across the country.

Police Activates Technologies To Tackle New Wave Of Crime – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Alh. Usman Alkali Baba, has said that the Nigeria Police Force is activating technology in all areas of its operations to ensure a holistic check on new waves of banditry and kidnapping in the country.

The IG noted that the Marine unit of the police force has been reactivated, crime section digitalised, drones have been acquired while the Technical Intelligent Unit is fully functional to cope with new trends in crime and criminality.

Baba who was in Akwa Ibom State for the commissioning of the Special Protection Unit base in Onna local government area of the state disclosed this while addressing officers and men of the State command, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo on Wednesday.

According to him, the Nigerian Police must work with time and modernity to contain the ever dynamic crime waves adding that training and retraining has been the cardinal point of the present administration. He urged police officers in the country to constantly educate themselves by reading and listening to news in order to acquaint themselves with the latest happenings in the society.
