Courts Adjourns Baba Ijesha’s Case Again
The Court case of Olanrewaju James Omiyinka popularly known actor “Baba Ijesha” has been adjourned again as witness failed to show up in court.
Prosecutors also mentioned to the Court this morning that the female police officer who was supposed to testify was absent because she was transferred to Badagry.
Recall that Baba Ijesha is facing charges of Sexually assaulting a minor.
The court has adjourned the case to November 19th and December 2nd.
INEC presents certificate of Return to Soludo
The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a Certificate of Return to Anambra Governor-elect, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
The event took place at the state INEC head office, Akwa.
His running mate, Dr Onyekachi also received his certificate from INEC
Recall that Soludo beat the other governorship candidates in the just concluded Governorship Elections.
FG To Borrow N25.5 billion To provide Solar Power For National Assembly
The federal government is to borrow N25.5bn($62.1m) to construct 17MW hybrid solar power infrastructure for the National Assembly.
The loan is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s N7.6trn external borrowing request approved but the senate on Wednesday.
He Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Clifford Ordia, said his panel found that the $22.8bn approved by the National Assembly under the 2016-2018 External Borrowing Plan, only $2.8bn, representing 10 percent, had been disbursed to Nigeria.
In its report, the Committee listed various proposed project to be financed by this loans.
APC Andy Uba Rejects Result of Anambra Election.
Senator Andy Uba, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Anambra State Governorship Election, has rejected the result of the elections.
In a statement signed by the Spokesman for his campaign organisation, Jerry Ugokwe, on Thursday, He called the results as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission “as a charade” which was not reflective of the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state.

Police Arrests Trainees at Merchant Navy Camp
The Police Authority in Lagos State have arrested about 107 trainees at the outlawed Merchant Navy Camp,around Ogudu, Lagos State.
Police Commissioner in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, disclosed this during a parade of the suspects on Wednesday.
Odumosu said the arrest was sequel to “credible actionable intelligence on the illegal activities of the Merchant Navy” which he said was outlawed by the Federal Government in 2017.
The arrested trainees some of whom were wearing Navy uniforms and military camouflage while being paraded by the police have been taken into custody and according to the police, they will be arraigned in court after completion of the investigation.
Why the “fine” clause must be removed from the NDLEA act – Marwa
Chairman of the National Deug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa has said that the removal of the clause with allows for an option of fine for drug offenders from the Agency’s Act will strengthen the effect of court prosecution and Conviction
The Act is currently undergoing Amendment in the National Assembly.
Gen. Marwa stated this in his remarks while defending the 2022 NDLEA budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics chaired by Senator Hezekiah Dimka.
He said though he had visited the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho, on the issue of ridiculous options of fine given to some drug traffickers, he believes the removal of the clause that allows Judges to use discretionary powers to give options of fine would strengthen the effect of drug prosecution in the country.
Envelop Nigerian Law School From Politics – Wike
Governor Wike of River State has said that the bill in the National Assembly which seeks to establish two campuses of the Nigerian Law School in each of the geopolitical zones in Nigeria is a political tactics.
He said the proponents of the bill titled, ‘A bill for an Act to amend the Legal Education (Consolidation, etc.) Act by establishing the campuses for the Nigerian Law School, and for other related matters’ merely want to score a cheap political point in their constituencies ahead of the 2023 general election.
The Governor’s Spokesman Kelvin in a statement on Thursday, said Wike made this assertion during an unscheduled inspection of ongoing construction work at the Dr. Nabo Graham Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The governor said it is so unfortunate that some Senators want to politicize the establishment of Nigerian Law School campuses, even when there is glaring evidence that the Federal government cannot adequately fund the existing ones.
Prison Break: over 3,000 prisoners still on the loose says Aregbesola
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola says that there are still over 3000 prisoners on the loose following the prison breaks in Nigeria within the last year.
Speaking at a media briefing organized by the Presidential Media Team at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, Aregbesola further disclosed that 4,860 inmates escaped from various custodial centers from 2020 till date, and out of this, 984 have been recaptured.
The former governor of Osun State stressed that the recent attacks on some correctional facilities in the country are a reflection of the insecurity in Nigeria.
This leaves the country with about 3876 prisoners still at large.
According to the Minister, biometrics of all prisoners in the country have been captured, and it is the hope of the Federal Government that this will aid the tracking and rearrest of the escapees.
Police Arrest 14 Linked With Siege On Justice Odili’s House
The police said that Fourteen persons have been arrested in connection to the siege on Justice Mary Odili’s house in Abuja on Thursday.
Some of the suspects include a fake Chief Superintendent of Police, Lawrence Ajodo; a contributing editor with one of the national dailies, Stanley Nkwazema, and an Islamic scholar.
The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, paraded the suspects in Abuja and explained that their arrest followed a quick investigation by the police.
The police spokesman added that at least ten more persons linked with the incident including two military personnel are still at large.
UK Felicitates with Soludo, Applauds INEC
The United Kingdom has Felicitated with Professor Charles Soludo in his Victory as the winner of the Anambra Gubernatorial Elections.
This felicitation was contained in a British High Commission statement titled, “‘UK Statement On Anambra Governorship Election”.
The UK also hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that the election results released early on Wednesday are consistent with the results obtained through the civil society Parallel Vote Tabulation process carried out by YIAGA Africa.
Speaking after the election, the British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, said, “Credible and inclusive elections are fundamental to Nigeria’s democratic growth”.
The UK further encouraged INEC and all stakeholders to continue improving the electoral system and to ensure meaningful participation of young people, women and citizens generally in the democratic process.
