President Buhari Says He Has No Preferred Candidate For 2023 Elections

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday dismissed the possibility of supporting a preferred candidate to succeed him when his tenure elapses on May 29, 2023.

The President made this known on Wednesday while responding to questions during an exclusive interview aired on Channels Television.

He however said if he discloses any candidate of his choice, such a person might be eliminated. He was not specific on what he meant by elimination.

The interview also afforded Buhari an opportunity to chide Nigerian youths, especially graduates, saying upon graduation they must learn to discard the entitlement mentality of waiting on government to provide jobs for them. In his opinion, the youth population must learn to deploy the knowledge gained in school to create a meaningful life for themselves.

Dowen College: Family Alleges Cover Up, Rejects DPP’s Report On Oromoni Jr

The family of Sylvester Oromoni Jr, has rejected the report of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) which absolved staff and some students of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos of complicity in the death of their son.

The family in a statement issued on Wednesday by the father of the deceased, Mr Sylvester Oromoni, Snr, alleged gang up by some persons to frustrate the matter and stand justice on its head.

They called on President Muhammadu Buhari, civil rights groups among other individuals, to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

FG Publicizes Court Judgement Declaring Bandits Terrorists

The Federal Government has publicized a court judgement that ordered it to declare bandits as terrorists.

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), gazetted the court judgement on Wednesday.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had in a judgement on November 25, 2021, granted an ex-parte application by the Federal Government for Yan Bindiga (Hausa word for gunmen) and Yan Ta’adda (Hausa word for terrorists) to be declared as terrorists but the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), did not do so after over a month.

But a document released on Wednesday by Umar Gwandu, the Spokesperson to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, showed that the AGF office had gazetted the court order.

Lagos Govt To Appease Shangisha Landlords With Plots Of Land

The Lagos State Government has promised to provide 549 plots of land to Shangisha landlords as compensation to end the land dispute between them and the Magodo Residents Association.

The move is an agreement reached by parties following Wednesday’s meeting presided by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had on Tuesday visited the area where he called on the parties in the tussle to stand down, in a bid to completely resolve the matter.

Before then, some armed police officers, acting on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had laid a siege in Magodo Phase II Estate amid reports of a planned demolition of properties in the estate, in a bid to enforce a Supreme Court order.

Nigerian actor, Jim Iyke, has stated that he paid fellow Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu to beat him up in a viral video last year.

Jim Iyke in August 2021 had engaged with Uche Maduagwu physically after the latter questioned the source of his wealth.

Speaking concerning the incident, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Jim Iyke stated that the whole thing was planned and that he paid Maduagwu after they reached an agreement.

Jim Iyke disclosed that it was his plan to promote his movie, Bad Comments. He further disclosed that he was discouraged about pulling the stunt but moved on with it because he understood what the people wanted.

PDP Adjusts Timetable For Ekiti Elections: PDP Postpones Primaries Till Jan. 26

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the adjustment of its timetable and schedule of activities for the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.

In the reviewed timetable, the party fixed a new date for the election of its flag bearer for January 26. The Party in a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, on Wednesday, disclosed the new development.

“The state congress to elect the governorship candidate (candidate nomination) earlier scheduled for Friday, January 28, 2022 is now slated to hold on Wednesday, January 26, 2022″, Bature said.

He advised all aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders and members of the party to be guided accordingly.

Lekan Balogun becomes new Olubadan of Ibadan

Dr. Lekan Balogun has been declared the next Olubadan of Ibadan by members of the Olubadan-in-Council.

His emergence follows the endorsement of his nomination by the Council.

This was disclosed during a press briefing by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Ajibola said that the decision by the kingmakers to make Dr Balogun the new Olubadan was in accordance with the tradition.
