Properties worth billions of naira have been destroyed in a fire outbreak which gutted the building materials section of Amu market in Mushin area of Lagos.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the fire started from one of the shops in the market in the early hours of today and other shops before LASEMA team arrived the scene.

Another eye witness said there was no power supply when the fire started adding that fire fighters have been doing their best to control the inferno without success.

As at the time of this report, all efforts to speak to market leaders proved abortive, as there was confusion within the market.

Meanwhile, the Public relations officer of the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Jamiu Dosunmu says efforts are ongoing to curtail the fire as Ilupeju and Isolo Fire Stations joined Sari Iganmu and Alausa Fire Appliances, LASEMA, LASAMBUS, Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps and Red Cross to combat the fire spread.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says the cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained.
