A sexual assault referral centre has been established by the European Union, the British council, the national programme for managing conflict in Nigeria at the specialist hospital Yola. The centre promises to deal with all cases of rape, its negative implication and the necessary forensic analyses needed to prosecute culprits.
The programme for managing conflict in Nigeria says the operation of the centre will be based on non-judgmental approach on victims which is critical to the recovery of the victim.
As part of post conflict rehabilitation programmes, a strategy to prevent the escalation of conflict into violence is being fashioned out to address the rising incidences of sexual and gender-based more especially in the Boko Haram ravaged north eastern part of the country.
