The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Margaret Emefiele, wife of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, wanted over alleged financial crimes.

Also declared wanted are Eric Odoh, Anita Omoile, and Jonathan Omoile for allegedly “Conspiring with the former CBN governor to covert huge sums of money belonging to the federal government and committed felony to wit: Obtaining money by false pretences and stealing contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State”

In a statement Friday, the EFCC said the suspects face charges of obtaining under false pretenses, theft, and other offenses under Lagos criminal law. It urged anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the Commission or police immediately.

Emefiele was removed as CBN Governor by President Tinubu earlier this year and arrested by the Department of State Services. He currently faces 20 counts of financial misconduct including breach of trust, forgery, fraud, and felony conspiracy.

The former CBN chief has pleaded not guilty. But the EFCC is now seeking his wife Margaret and three associates – branding them fugitives in a widening probe of alleged state fund misappropriation.

Emefiele was granted bail last November to the tune of ₦300 million. However, his wife is now wanted to answer similar charges, as prosecutors aim to uncover the full scale of activities under his tenure.

With an amended indictment and manhunt now extending to family and partners, the former Governor’s legal jeopardy continues to intensify.
