Court upholds Akiolu as Oba of Lagos

Justice Candide Johnson of the Lagos State high court Ikeja has upheld the enthronement of Rilwan Akiolu as the Oba of Lagos.

Prince Adedoyin Adebiyi and Prince Rasheed Modile had gone to court to challenge Oba Rilwan Akiolu as the rightful monarch.

The two plaintiffs are both from the Akinsemoyin ruling house, and claim that they were chosen by the family to contest the title, after the demise of the late Oba of Lagos, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, the 2nd.

They say he has no rightful claim to the throne but Oba Akiolu says he was righfully chosen by the kingmakers, which led to his coronation on May 23, 2003.
