Court depose former rccg pastor, Olaoye as soun of Ogbomoso

An High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has overturned the appointment of Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso. The ruling, which was delivered on Wednesday, calls for a fresh selection process.

The controversy on Oba Olaoye’s appointment stemmed from the fact that the Ogbomoso kingmakers had defied a court order to install him as Soun back in September, following the approval of the State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Before his appointment, the deposed Soun, a former Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), completed the necessary traditional rites and was proclaimed as His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye holding the title of Orumogege III.

His selection as soun became a court tussle, following the demise of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, in December 2021 who reigned for 48 years. Selection of a new soun had since been a legal battle
