Buhari speaks on corruption at AU submit, meets Obasanjo


President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, exchange pleasantries in friendly spirit at the summit of African leaders in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after criticism by the formal president to the Buhari led administration.

Obasanjo had earlier stirred up controversies in the country after releasing a 13-page statement accusing Buhari of under-performance and therefore should not seek re-election in 2019.

Information and Culture minister, Lai Mohammed had responded to the letter, saying Obasanjo’s advice amounted to a distraction, as Buhari is busy, at the moment, trying to get rid of the mess left by 16 years of PDP rule. which includes eight years of Obasanjo’s input in the burden.

In Nigeria, however, supporters of Buhari are at war with supporters of Obasanjo, following the statement, urging President Buhari not to run for re-election in 2019.

While addressing African leaders at the 30th AU Summit, Buhari, condemned in strong terms terrorism and terrorist activities in Africa and around the world, he acknowledged the achievements recorded in the insurgency fight and called for more international support to fight Boko Haram and other humanitarian crisis.

Buhari also charged the African leaders to take resolute and coordinative initiatives by developing an African Union database for law enforcement agencies in Africa to checkmate persons or groups and entities involved in the act of corruption and terrorism.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Obasanjo and Buhari’ at the AU summit was tagged the first after their unpleasant encounter.
