The reports from THE PUNCH have it that security operatives used teargas to disperse the crowd.

The protesters who made their way to the stadium at about 7 am on Monday, to kick-start the protest met a detachment of police officers at the stadium entrance.

According to reports from THE CABLE, one of the protesters identified as Eliaz Ozikpu said that he was discussing plans of the protest with others when the security operatives crossed over the road to meet them.

He said, “We were standing here, while they watched us from the other side. Suddenly, they moved on us and said we can’t talk to the press. We weren’t even talking to the press yet. We were addressing ourselves.”

However, the protesters began to chant as they called for the release of the convener of the movement, Omoyele Sowore who was arrested on Saturday by some operatives of the Department of State Security Service on Saturday, August 3rd 2019.

The Police had earlier warned that holding the protest was illegal but the protesters had defied the police as they went on to come out at the National Stadium Surulere.
