The leadership of Benue state All Progressives Congress has demanded the immediate resignation of the Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (retd.) for what they described as ridiculous, absurd statement aimed at bringing disgrace to Nigeria democracy.
The party said the carefree statement credited to the minister saying the attacks on two communities in Benue State that led to the death of over 74 people and destruction of properties worth millions of naira were as a result of the open grazing prohibition law enacted by the state government.
In a statement by its Director of Publicity, Apeh Peterhot, the party said the leadership considered the statement by Ali as “a ridiculous absurdity,” and the highest level of public disgrace to democracy and the Nigerian populace.
The statement read, “We have therefore been constrained to believe that Mr. Mansur is a component unit of the perceived conspiracy against the good and hospitably peace-loving people of Benue State.
It continued “As an integral part of the country, Nigeria, and as a state that gave President Muhammadu Buhari an edge in the 2015 general elections, we demand that Mansur Dan Ali (retd.) resigns his position as Nigeria’s Defence Minister immediately and tender an unreserved apology to the good people of Benue State and the country at large.
They maintained that his utterances were reckless and a deliberate ploy to truncate the party’s victory in the 2019 general elections.
