Army to launch operation to forestall banditry in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army is set to launch Operation Harbin Kunama Three, in order to combat armed banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping in Zamfara state and its environs.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai, stated this at a press conference in Gusau when he visited One Brigade Nigerian  Army Headquarters to assess the level of preparedness of troops and intimate them of plans by the Army to Launch Operation Harbin Kunama Three.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai was  represented by Chief of Training and Operations, Major General Lamidi Adeosun .

In recent times there have been many attacks on Communities by Armed Bandits in Zamfara and neighbouring Sokoto and Katsina states.

The operation Harbin Kunama Three would support the ongoing operation Sharan Daji and focus on dealing with  armed bandits, cattle rustlers and kidnappers around katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara axis.

The increase in criminal activities in some parts of these three states, is posing a serious threat to life of residents.

Similar exercises were conducted in Zamfara state in  2017 with the mission of flushing out bandits, but it did not achieve the desired goal.

Many  residents are optimistic that this time round, the Combined efforts of the armed forces deployed to the state, will ensure an improvement of the  Security situation .
