Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said yesterday that he wished his late predecessor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, were alive to witness his ascent as governor of the state as he has always wanted.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who spoke this in Akure, at the burial rites of the late former governor, shared how late Akeredolu had always wanted him to succeed him as Ondo state governor.
He also expressed pride to have been a part of Akeredolu legacy, revealing further that he and late Akeredolu were best of friends but certain persons pushed false narratives against them.
“It has been his wish that I succeed him. He said it on our first day of inauguration. During our Exco meetings, he repeated it severally.
“I would have preferred he stayed back and watch me govern the state. I know he will be proud of me.
“I trained under Akeredolu. He was a man who always says his mind on national issues. He says his thoughts not minding his pursuit. When he speaks, the nation will be at attention. We imbibe his qualities on governance” he said
Burial rites for late Ondo Governor, Akeredolu, started yesterday with a soul winning crusade at MKO Abiola Democracy Park, Akure, in a series of other burial arrangements spanning 11 days to culminate in a thanksgiving service at St Andrews Church, Owo, February 25th.
