A female Christian student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Wamako, Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu was allegedly killed by an angry mob who accused her of blasphemy against prophet Mohammed.
The incident took place on Thursday in Wamako, in the country’s northwestern state, near the confluence of the Rima River.
The deceased was accused of making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed on campus, according to eyewitnesses.
According to a student who witnessed the incident, said she was quietly removed to the school’s security post after immediate threats to her safety. However, the mob tracked her to the security post, where they overpowered the guards, stoned her to death and later set her corpse on fire.
Law enforcement agencies have made a statement declaring the school’s immediate closure due to the fracas that erupted following Ms. Deborah’s murder.
