Far too many emergencies in the sickle cell community are caused by low, unmonitored PCV (Packed Cell Volume). The demand for blood transfusions among our warriors is rising at an alarming rate, largely because many don’t know their steady-state PCV or realize how critical it is to keep an eye on it.
Too often, by the time symptoms appear, levels are already dangerously low. This leads to medical emergencies, organ damage, increased stroke risk, heart problems, and pulmonary hypertension.
Exciting News from the Beulah Sickle Cell Foundation! 🎉
We are moving from teaching to ACTION. At our last quarterly Welfare Clinic, we introduced a Hemoglobin monitoring system to test PCV levels. Over 130 SCD persons benefited from this free test!
Understanding your baseline “steady-state” is vital for survival. This knowledge will help reduce emergencies and guide our clinicians in providing better care. We are so happy to offer this tool to keep our warriors healthier and more informed—AT NO COST TO THEM!
That’s why we’ve made it our mission to provide:
âś… Free PCV testing
âś… 100 days of free medications
We want to empower our warriors to know their numbers, stay mindful, and avoid crossing those danger lines. No one should lose their life simply because they didn’t know their number—even if you are in remote areas.
