According to the Federal Government, Hungary and Romania have granted visa-free entry for all Nigerians arriving from Ukraine.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a statement on Sunday, recommending Nigerians fleeing Ukraine to seek refuge near the Hungarian or Romanian borders.

“For now, movement to the Hungarian Zahony border and Romanian Suceava, Tulcea, Satu Mare County & Maramures borders is advised, as they have approved visa-free access to all Nigerians coming from Ukraine and arrangements for accommodation and feeding before evacuation is arranged,” Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, said in the statement.

Aduda further stated that the government is well aware of all the hardships that Nigerians are facing in Ukraine and is doing all possible to alleviate their suffering.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is fully aware of all the difficulties that Nigerians traveling into Ukraine’s border countries, particularly the Polish border, face, and we are taking appropriate efforts to address these difficulties.”

“On these unsavoury developments, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs has spoken with his counterpart, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, and both are working to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, including deploying the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to the border to ensure easier access to all Nigerians and other nationals,” the statement read.

It’s been four days since Russia’s invasion, which has shocked the globe, and battle raged in Ukraine on Sunday.

After Moscow insisted that Kyiv’s soldiers lay down their arms before negotiations could begin, Ukraine stated it would undertake talks with Russia “without preconditions” near its Belarus border.

The country’s forces, on the other hand, have put up a valiant fight and claim to have wreaked havoc on the Russian military.

“We will not surrender, cede, or give up a single inch of our territory,” Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, stated during a press conference streamed live on the internet.
