A bomb believed to have been detonated by Boko Haram fighters burst at Galadima Kogo in the Shiroro local government council of Niger State, killing four members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to authorities, one person was critically hurt as a result of the bomb.

Many locals were compelled to escape the region after the incident, which occurred early Monday, for fear of another attack.

According to other sources, Boko Haram fighters assaulted Galadima Kogo in huge numbers, shooting intermittently to terrify the residents, killing an unknown number of civilians, and wounded many more.

However, none of the security services have corroborated the assertions.

When approached about the incident, Mr Emmanuel Umar, the Niger State Commissioner of Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, said the attack was retaliation.

Mr Umar claimed that an intelligence operation took place two days ago in the area where the militants had a base.

As part of efforts to chase terrorists out of the jungles, security agents are claimed to have attacked the outlaws’ stronghold.

The commissioner advised citizens of Niger State to be calm, noting that the government, led by Governor Abubakar Bello, will continue to do all possible to protect indigenes’ and residents’ lives and property at all costs.

Mr Emmanuel Umar said the government and security services are on top of the civilian death data, but that they have yet to determine the exact number of people killed in the occurrence.

He invited anyone with genuine information on individuals terrorizing the arrear to come forward and share the information with security officials, emphasizing that anyone who does so will be protected and rewarded.
