Abba Kyari, detained deputy commissioner of police, has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to award him N500 million in damages from the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for alleged arbitrary detention and arrest.
In an originating application before Justice Inyang Ekwo, the suspended DCP also requested an order instructing the NDLEA to issue a formal apology to him in two national dailies.
Mr Kyari also sought an order instructing the NDLEA to tender a written apology to him in two national dailies in an originating application on notice marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22 filed before Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
His lawyer, C. O. Ikena, sought an injunction “restraining the respondent (NDLEA), its agents, servants, privies, police, or anybody acting on their behalf from further harassing, detaining, intimidating, or arresting the applicant unlawfully” in a motion dated February 16 and submitted February 17.
“An order of this court directing the respondent to pay the applicant the sum of N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) for unlawful breach of the applicant’s constitutional right provided for in Sections 35 and 36 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution.”
