Video: We need to regulate social media now – Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed Calls for Regulation of Social Media

The recent call by Alhaji Lai Mohammed for the regulation of social media has generated a lot of controversies and reactions from the Nigerian public.

Many believe it is a backdoor means by which the incumbent government wants to tamper with citizens’ civil rights of speech and association.

FirstNigeriaTV opines that the regulation of the bill would not be bad if it strictly works to prevent breakdown of law and order by discouraging words and acts capable of causing strife, dissension and war, while conscientiously avoiding tampering with the rights of the people to live in a free society.

A Democratic Nigeria can, in no way, be compared to China which is a Communist enclave and as such the negligible scope of freedom in that country cannot be imported into Nigeria.

By and large, the freedom of speech and association is sacred, even beyond the limits of civil rights gauged by types of governance and it would be sacrilegious for anyone to attempt trampling on this freely given right by divinity.
