Eight suspects who allegedly kidnapped and murdered 92-year-old Dariye Dafwan, father of erstwhile Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye have been arrested by the Intelligence Response Unit of the Nigeria Police.
Narrating the old man’s ordeal in the hands of his abductors and killers to pressmen, Police Spokesman Emeka Mba said the victim was first abducted and kept in a very filthy environment for about a week during which negotiations were being carried out by the criminals with the family for ransom for his release.
According to him, the negotiations culminated in an agreement to pay a sum of N10million for his release, a condition that was hurriedly met by the deceased’s family.
Sadly, after the criminals got paid, they went ahead to kill the victim instead of the prior agreement to set him free.
The deceased’s son is currently serving a jail term at the Kuje, Abuja Correctional Centre over corruption charges while in government.
