Although several cash donations and medical supplies have been received, the advent of locally-fabricated ventilators by some young inventors may be the game changer in Nigeria’s fight against Coronavirus. But despite the billions realized, world-class testing and isolations centres created; and medical equipment and drugs received, Nigeria’s ‘war’ against COVID-19 would be incomplete. Reason: dearth of ventilators. Ventilator, a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of the lungs, to deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently, is everything, but adequate in the country.
Nigeria, a perceived under developed country is on the verge of winning the war against Covid-19 as Major A.S. Imam, the Head of Department of Mechatronics at the Nigerian Defence Academy has invented a Ventilator
considering the scarcity of the lifesaving product even in the most developed countries.
