The two preceding videos were received by FirstNigeriaTV via its WhatsApp production line. They were sent by a Nigerian who has worked in the United Kingdom for over two decades as a caregiver.
The videos were accompanied by a message that read thus:
“Good evening Editor,
I had been opportune to watch some of the videos posted by your establishment describing the despaired air around Nigeria in the wake of the worldwide scare created by the Corona virus.
After seeing and enjoying the videos, I thought it good to send this my recording exclusively to your organization and I wish you could use your good offices to share it round our people back home.
My name is Ndubisi Kolawole IFEBAJO. I work for an organisation called One Housing Group…. OHG for short, a reputable organisation providing Social Housing and Health Care.
I am a Deputy Extra- Care Manager.
In Extra-Care we provide accommodation and support for Adults 55 years and over with housing and care needs. Therefore it is imperative that my staff team and I go into work to ensure that our customers receive the much needed support to enable them live a meaningful and qualitative life.
Therefore at this critical period, we are deemed as essential workers with the need to travel daily to and fro work in order to discharge our duties. My role is to plan the work schedule and supervise the staff team and when the need arises I work hands on to support the team.
Only God can reward the entire Health Care workforce the world over”.
Ojomo Olusegun of FirstNigeriaTV found it imperative to showcase the account by this Nigerian working in the diaspora back home to let our viewers know the level of impoverishment the nation has earned from brain drain.
The video account by Ifebajo speaks volumes!
One needs not be told that he came out of his abode, thousands of kilometres away, to attend to his job, a feat to justify wages he earns. You could get his drift about the regard he has for his job from the recorded video.
Were he within the Nigerian work force, he would have belonged to the group of medical personnel that must embark on strike before adequate wages are paid as and when due.
The recent panic by the medical personnel at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos on sighting some non-Nigerian patients brought to the hospital, suspected to be Corona Virus infected, would not be forgotten easily. They reportedly took to their heels on sighting the sick mainly because they had nil job security.
By and large, the writer hopes Nigerian leaders would learn strongly from the lessons and consequences presented by the latest global plague, the Corona Virus, and put everything about the nation’s healthcare delivery services right.
