The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State has dismissed its Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adolphus Loto, for filing a false petition against the university’s management. The institution’s governing council took the decision after investigating the allegations and finding them to be false and misleading.
According to the institution’s spokesperson, Temitope Oluwatayo, UNIMED upholds the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability, and any actions that undermine the institution’s credibility will not be tolerated. Oluwatayo stated that Professor Loto’s actions were deemed a breach of trust and integrity, and the decisive action was taken in the best interest of the university and its commitment to upholding transparency and integrity.
The decision to remove Professor Loto was based on his “unbecoming conduct, including frivolous, spurious, and unsubstantiated allegations against the university management.” The Petitions Committee of Council (PCC) found the allegations to be untrue, baseless, and embarrassing to the university community, and liable to bring the university into disrepute.
The UNIMED Senate considered the report of the PCC and recommended Professor Loto’s removal as Deputy Vice-Chancellor by an overwhelming majority, with 100 percent of the voters approving his removal. The institution’s spokesperson stated that the university will not tolerate any actions that undermine its credibility and integrity.
