The Universal Basic Education Commission on Monday has disclosed that a total of N4,257,638,624.66 was disbursed to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for the education of children with special needs between 2016 and 2018.
Report has it that the National Policy on Education, designed by the Federal Ministry of Education, categorises children with visual and hearing impairments, physical and health impairment, intellectual disability, emotional and behavioural disorder, speech and language impairments, learning disabilities, multiple disabilities, gifted and talented as well as people living with albinism as people of special needs.
While analyzing the breakdown of the funds disbursed UBEC said In 2016, each state and the FCT got N47,942,799.68 each, while in 2017, states and FCT obtained N30,400,600 each.
The disbursement was later increased in 2018, with each state and the FCT obtaining a total of N36,727,914.50 each.
