The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na-Allah, says the institution frowns at sexual harassment of students by the lecturers which caused the dismissal of two professors for the offence.
Na’Allah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in New York while on a two day visit to the US to meet with the University of Abuja Alumni Association, USA chapter, that, the university had introduced a policy on sex abuse on campus, which had been published.
Na’Allah said the University is in collaboration with some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), to make sure they are not the only one addressing that the issue, but with a strong partnership.
He adds that sexual harassment a problem of universities in Nigeria, not only University of Abuja and his administration will not tolerate any act of misconduct perpetrated by its staff against students.
He however solicited for support for the institution, saying, ”female students needed to be protected.”
