President Bola Tinubu revealed on Wednesday that the 2025 appropriation bill will soon be presented to the National Assembly.
He said this during a joint session in Abuja, marking 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria. Tinubu also stressed the importance of safeguarding the nation’s democratic progress. He urged the National Assembly to remain vigilant in protecting this achievement, highlighting the need to secure prosperity and progress for future generations.
The President expressed his gratitude to Nigerians and the legislative body for their dedication to democratic governance. “Out of respect, I come to say thank you very much for building on this stage, building the institution, and the country,” he stated. Tinubu underscored the significance of the National Assembly, describing it as a symbol of freedom and a sense of belonging.
During his address, Tinubu acknowledged the role of the National Assembly in his political journey, emphasizing their collective efforts. He called for continued collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, noting that unity is essential for national development.
President Tinubu also stressed the importance of self-reliance, stating that foreign aid alone cannot build the nation. He urged lawmakers to focus on the future and work towards creating a prosperous path for the next generations.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio responded positively, expressing anticipation for the 2025 budget. He highlighted the unity among lawmakers and the celebration of national heritage.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, commended Tinubu’s leadership and democratic values. He expressed the House’s satisfaction with Tinubu’s performance and the mutually beneficial relationship between the executive and legislative branches. Abbas also praised the reintroduction of the old national anthem, emphasizing its nostalgic and unifying value.
The session concluded with a collective commitment to work together for the nation’s progress and a reminder of the upcoming Democracy Day celebration on June 12.
