In a grand ceremony at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, President Bola Tinubu has conferred the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of Nigeria (GCON) title on Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland.
This honor recognizes Oba Adetona’s remarkable contributions to national development and was presented during his 90th birthday celebration.
President Tinubu praised Oba Adetona as an extraordinary royal father and hero of Nigeria’s democracy, renowned for his courage and sincerity in promoting national development. He applauded the royal father’s dedication to service and commitment to democracy as an inspiration to Nigerians, and noted that his legacy continues to thrive through his contributions to the nation.
The event also featured the launch of a book, “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria: The Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Model,” and a lecture by Prof Akinsola Agagu on “Changing Nigeria’s Governance Narratives.” The book and lecture honored Oba Adetona’s contributions to governance and democracy in Nigeria.
Dignitaries in attendance included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and other prominent leaders.
