A policeman and an okada rider were feared dead while properties worth millions of naira including six vehicles were destroyed in Akure, ondo state capital.
The unconfirmed news in town was that the remains of one year old Gold Kolawole who went missing over a month had been dug out from the church’s altar.
Hell was then let loose as the irate mob set the church on fire while members said to be conducting a service ran for dear lives though nobody could confirm the exhumation.
However, the ondo state police command said nobody dead body was exhumed from the church alter as being peddled by rumour mongers.
The commissioner of police, Undie Adie said the information was false.
The church auditorium and adjoining houses were set on fire and properties looted.
About six vehicles said to belong to the embattled founder of the Church, prophet Alfa Babatunde popularly known as Sotitobire who is presently in DSS custody were burnt.
A detachment of security operatives sent to bring the situation under control were helpless as the crowd grew in numbers every minute.
Tempers equally flared over allegations that the police shot at innocent citizens leading to a casualty while a policeman was also feared dead after being attacked by the irate mob.
Another detachment of security operatives were deployed and then, the mob scampered for fear of arrest.
At the time of filing this report, normalcy has returned to the area following the reinforcement of more security operatives who have commenced arrest of many residents of the area.
