Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central, has finally responded to criticisms over his decision to donate burial materials to his constituents.
At a news conference in Kano on Monday, he expressed he has no regrets for donating the burial materials to empower his constituency.
Senator Hanga clarified that he used his personal funds, not constituency project money, to purchase the materials. He explained that this gesture is a tradition in his family, and he had been doing it even before becoming a senator. “Many people knew me for this gesture, and when I became Senator, some groups requested that I purchase materials for them to maintain their graveyards. I decided to spread the gesture to all 15 Local Government Areas of my constituency.” He said
The lawmaker also emphasized that this donation is just one aspect of his efforts to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents. He highlighted the various projects he had done which included roads in 10 Local Government Areas, constructing Women Centers in 6 Local Councils, provision of monetary incentives to women and youths and the sponsoring over 2000 students to study at Kano State Polytechnic
According to the Senator his constituency has also benefited in school fees paid for 1500 Bayero University, Kano (BUK) students, and the building of an Islamic school at Dan Dishe town. Under his administration, 450 bags of assorted grains and spaghetti were also distributed to each of the 15 Local Government Areas.
