The Saraki political meeting spot popularly called Ile Arugbo (Old people’s home) has eventually been demolished.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Kwara state government officials demolished the building in the middle of the night.
The demolition was long awaited after the Kwara state government announced the reclamation of the plots of land.
The first attempt was made on the eve of the new year but it was unsuccessful.
Eventually Ile Arugbo was demolished in the wee hours of Thursday.
The Saraki GRA residence is directly opposite the demolished structure.
Residents complained that gunshots and teargas were fired into the building ostensibly to scare protesters away.
This is coming as the Saraki’s kinsmen warned governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to thread with caution.
Government had earlier announced the reclamation of the land saying it is part of government property illegal acquired by individuals.
