Police foil attempted attack on Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos

Armed robbers on Monday raided the Dangote Refinery in Lekki area of Lagos. The armed men are reported to have attacked the refinery through the waterways. 

President Muhammadu Buhari penultimate Tuesday commissioned the Dangote fertiliser plant and Dangote Refinery that are both located at Lekki. Dangote refineries is considered the biggest in Africa when it eventually becomes operational.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, confirmed the attack. He said security operatives in the early hours of Monday, March 28, 2022, foiled an attempted attack on Dangote Refinery, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos.

Hundeyin said armed hoodlums numbering about 20 gained access to the refinery through the lagoon side.

He said the armed men were repelled while they attempted to cart away already-installed armoured cables in the refinery, of which Two yet to be identified persons were shot dead during the attack.

He further added that Investigation has commenced with a view to arresting the fleeing attackers.

“On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, security at the refinery has been fortified,” he added.
