On Friday morning, the first group of Nigerian evacuees from Ukraine arrived in the country onboard a Max Air flight. They were evacuated from Romania, where they had sought refuge in the aftermath of the country’s strife.
They were greeted by government officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s private jet terminal in Abuja. The returnees, who were largely students, had to go through paperwork before being allowed to return home.
According to Channels Television, the evacuees would be provided stipends and will be expected to self-isolate at home in accordance with COVID-19 regulations.
As Russia’s assault of its neighbor proceeds, more Nigerians are expected to arrive in the nation in the coming days.
