OBASANJO LETTER: YAKASSAI, OTHERS URGE BUHARI TO HEED ADVICE

Eminent Nigerians and political parties, has picked holes in the Federal Government’s response to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s advice to President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019 on account of ill-health and poor performance.

The Federal Government who responded to Obasanjo, in a statement by Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, describing the letter and advice as a distractions to the ongoing move of the government to address the enormous challenges bestowed by previous administrations, insisting that the government is doing well and have recorded many achievements in various sectors of governance.

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai in response to the Federal Government said President Buhari’s desperation for power would not allow him to listen to the voice of reason at this critical period he noted that “Obasanjo letter was an expression of disappointment in Buhari’s administration and it summarises the feelings of Nigerians and non-Nigerians.

He added ‘’The Buhari that I know would certainly jettison the advice because of his desperation for power. He is after power and doesn’t see anything else.”Obasanjo is sincere’’.

Also, the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, National Chairman, Alhaji Galadima, also described the letter of the former president as apt and sincere

ADP National Secretary of Action Democratic Party, ADP, James Okoroma, has described the letter as a pacesetter for a new Nigeria adding that the damage caused by the Buhari Government is enormous and Nigeria must endeavour to rebuild the country.

They maintained that Obasanjo’s statement is a welcome idea and should be respected advising Buhari to yield to the warning, saying it represented the opinion of the Nigerian people.
