As Nigerians are evacuated from war-torn Ukraine, the federal government will give each returnee $100 upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, an estimated 2,000 Nigerians have fled Ukraine amid a Russian incursion to neighboring nations.

According to THEWILL, the federal government sanctioned $8.5 million on Wednesday for the evacuation of Nigerian nationals leaving war-torn Ukraine. The funds were quickly released for the emergency operation.

Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, according to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Amb. Zubairu Dada, will be the destinations for the pickup flights.

Meanwhile, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), says two more planes evacuating Nigerians from Ukraine will arrive today.

THEWILL previously revealed that the first group of 450 Nigerians landed in the nation on Friday morning.

Students and consulate staff members arrived from Romania onboard a Max Air 747, which landed at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 7.15 a.m.

The returnees were met by Edward Adedokun, the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) Director of Search and Rescue; authorities from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM); and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
