The immediate past Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has reacted to a recent and widespread report on the invasion and confiscation of his Ilorin, Kwara State residence by officials of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria(AMCON).

In a statement issued by his media aide, Abdulwahab Oba and made available to newsmen yesterday, he described the act as unwarranted and uncalled for, citing that the matter of the N5b loan was already in the talks and being negotiated.

According to him, the dispute was occasioned by a margin loan he secured from the Intercontinental Bank and Finbank way back 2009 for the purchase of shares which was lumped into loans by other entities, making financial resolution faulty.

“The shares bought with the loan I obtained was held back by the bank to stand as collateral in case of repayment default but the bank  passed the loans to AMCON instead of selling the shares to recover the loan, as agreed upon”, he added.

Ahmed further said that he was taken aback by the intruding and overzealous act of the AMCON lawyer despite his foreknowledge that the matter was in dispute and reconciliation talks were ongoing.

Ahmed made a standing promise to meet his outstanding obligations as soon as the error occasioned by the aggregation of the loan was resolved.

It would be recalled that Ahmed recently, in conjunction with other notable Nigerians including former INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmud Jega, former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke and Professor Pat Utomi convened a political front named ‘Rescue Nigeria Project’, a formidable third force in Nigeria’s today political equation.
