Two Catholic priests, Rev. Fr. Remigius Him and Rev. Fr. Jude Onuoha who were in the Prison to celebrate their priestly silver jubilee with the inmates was surprised as they discovered a citizen in Owerri Prison, who has spent 14 years of his youthful years awaiting trial.
Speaking on behalf of the inmates, the Provost of the inmates, Mr. Onyeka Mbaeri, disclosed that he had spent 14 years awaiting trial in the prison and also commended the clerics for remembering the inmates by choosing to celebrate their priestly silver jubilee with them.
Also welcoming the priests, the Deputy Controller, Welfare, Mrs. Ejuka Marvis Clara, commended the Catholic priests for what she termed “your thoughtfulness and forthrightness, in coming to celebrate with the forgotten members of the society”.
Addressing the inmates, Rev. Onuoha said that he is aware that some of those sentenced are not guilty but he however urged the inmates to be prayerful and always look up to God.
