
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that it is ready for the upcoming election in Edo and Ondo State. It has also assured peace in those respective States.
Chief Press Secretary to the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated this during a webinar organised by the International Press Centre (IPC).
The webinar which was attended by various Professionals and communication scholars, carefully examined, the Imperative of Safety Consciousness and Conflict Sensitivity in Media Coverage and Reportage.
According to Mr. Oyekanmi, “to be sure, INEC is ready for the elections. We are determined to conduct the elections despite the current difficult circumstances”.
Also addressed in the webinar, was the issue of Situation Scan on Journalists Safety in Nigeria: what Journalists in Edo and Ondo should know, by Mrs. Melody Lawal.
Furthermore, Medical Officer; Caleb University, Dr. Clinton Okonye, expounded on elections coverage under COVID-19 rules; addressing issues of personal safety.
Earlier, during the webinar, the Executive Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade had given a welcome remark, stating the purpose of the meeting and reminding Journalists that their main duty is to relay information that citizens will require to make informed choices.
