Floods destroy 4,095 Houses, kill 21 In Yobe

Over 21 deaths have been recorded and 4,095 households affected in the flood that has devastating Yobe State since the beginning of May.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohamed Goje released the figure yesterday at the 2022 Flood Disaster Emergency Coordination Meeting held in Damaturu, the state capital.

The meeting was organised by SEMA and chaired by the Commissioner for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Garba Abubakar Iliya.

Goje said further that 97 people were hospitalised, treated and discharged, while 439 farms mostly from Gulani were destroyed.

Dr. Goje said because of this, shelter and food items remain the top priority of the displaced population followed by livestock and health support for farmers.

Dr. Iliya while speaking on behalf of the government said the state government has responded positively to the flood victims by the provision of shelter, food and nonfood items.
