FirstNigeriaTV Video: Anti-hate speech bill anti-people, wasteful legislation- Ag. Country Director, NDI

A Validation meeting for the Centre for Information Technology and Development’s (CITAD) research on hate speech in Nigeria was held recently in Lagos with the objective of assessing and evaluating findings of the research on women participation in politics and governance and the use of gendered hate speech on women and girls.

Presentations at the event included ‘Gendered Hate Speech and Violence Against Women Online’ by Annabel Ugwoke; ‘Awareness on the Legal Frameworks on Hate Speech in Nigeria: Recommendations for the Nigerian Campaign’ by Raymond Esebagbon; ‘Women Participation in Politics and Governance Processes’ by Hamza Ibrahim, while Experience Sharing was the mode for participants in general.

In a brief video interview with FirstNigeriaTV, the Acting Country Director, National Democratic Institute, Mr Raymond Esebagbon, also one of the presenters at the occasion spoke on the controversial anti-hate speech bill and the participation of women in Nigerian politics and governance.
