FirstNigeriaTV gives an account of the recent and opening rally in support of the consecration of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) held by the Yoruba World Congress in Ibadan, the largest Yoruba city and capital of Oyo State, Nigeria.
Representing the Leader, YWC, Professor Banjo Akintoye, a chieftain of the organisation, Mr. Kunle Adesokan maintained that ‘Amotekun’ was synonymous with Yorubaland and accepted as a new order by all and sundry.
His words: “Anyone who wants to stand against or fight Amotekun must be ready to fight the whole of Yorubaland and in essence, anyone who stands against Amotekun automatically becomes an enemy of Nigeria”.
“This rally is to thank the present Governor of Oyo State and his other allies in the Southwest for instituting this noble idea which is destined to promote peace in our land and by extension, Nigeria”.
“We have therefore resolved to stand solidly behind the Amotekun for the benefit of the whole of Yorubaland”.
Another chieftain of YWC, Mrs Bolajoko Akinlolu in her speech debunked claims in some quarters that Amotekun was composed to attack Islam.
“The claim by some people that Amotekun was organised to fight Islam is very far from the truth. As a matter of fact, majority of our hunters and Agbekoya are staunch Muslims who believe strongly in employment of our traditional values in solving problems”, she said.
