Mastermind of Kano children kidnap sentenced to 104 years in prison

A Kano High Court, on Friday, sentenced Paul Owne to 104 imprisonment for masterminding the kidnap of nine children in the state.

Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, who found the convict guilty of all the 38-count charge, sentenced him without an option of fine.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted accordingly.

Flood kills 26, destroy 1,000 houses in Kano State

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said on Friday that flood killed 26 people and destroyed over 1,000 houses in four Local Government Areas of the state from April to date.

The Executive Secretary, Kano SEMA, Dr Saleh Jili, who confirmed the figures in an interview in Kano, said that 50 other persons sustained injuries due to the the flood and windstorm.

According to him, the affected local government areas are Bunkure, Minjibir, Tarauni and Doguwa. He said that the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had earlier predicted that there would be flooding in 25 local government areas of the state this year.

No more late registration – WAEC warns

West Examinations Council (WAEC) says late registration of candidates by schools, for its West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), would no longer  be allowed, beginning from 2022.

The Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, made this known in an interview on Friday in Lagos.

Areghan spoke against the backdrop of late registration of candidates by some schools in an alleged bid to shop for external candidates. He warned that there would be no going back on deadlines set by the council for registration of school candidates, henceforth.

We spent N400m on Alum for water treatment in Oyo – Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that his administration has purchased N400m worth of aluminium sulphate for treatment of water in the past two years.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Taiwo Adisa, in a statement quoted the governor to have said this in Ibadan on Thursday while speaking at the stakeholders’ consultative meeting on the 2022 budget.

The statement read, “In addition, almost N400million was spent on the purchase of 1,194 metric tonnes of aluminium sulphate to boost the production of potable water in the state.

Joke with education at your peril – Buhari warns

President Muhammadu Buhari says no Nigerian parent jokes with education, as they know that if their children or wards missed the opportunity of being educated, they have missed a lot.

Kwara govt. appoints Polaris Bank director as new Emir of Lafiagi

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara, on Friday, approved the appointment of Ahaji Kawu Mohammed-Kudu, as the new Emir of Lafiagi, headquarters of Edu Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, Mohammed-Kudu was, until his appointment, the Director (North Central) of Polaris Bank.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Aliyu Saifudeen, has presented letter of appointment to the first-class traditional ruler, on behalf of the governor and congratulated him, also reminding him that the appointment had put him in a good stead to build bridge of harmony, understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among his people.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has described as painful, the loss of a child after spending much resources to train one.

The Governor who stated this while expressing grief over the death of five prospective National Youth Service Corps members from the state who died Wednesday in a car accident on their way to Orientation Camp in Katsina State, noted that it is painful to lose a child after investing much in raising them educationally and otherwise.

Gunmen Kidnap Popular Nightclub Owner In Bayelsa

Tari Ajanami, the owner of a prominent nightclub in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Ajanami, a native of Ayamasa town in the state’s Ekeremor Local Government Area, was kidnapped at his construction site on Otiotio Road in the state capital around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

SaharaReporters gathered that the victim was at his building site to pay workers when the gunmen whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Internet Fraud: Hushpuppi Pleads Guilty; Faces 20 Years In Jail

Hushpuppi, the embattled Instagram influencer, is said to have pled guilty to money laundering conspiracy.

According to a report by Kemi Olunloyo, the accused fraudster might face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Unknown Gunmen Invade Ministry Of Finance In Nasarawa, Cart Away N100m

Gunmen suspected of being armed robbers stormed the Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Planning in Lafia, stealing N100 million.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, when gunmen stormed the ministry, shooting sporadically.

The N100 million was allegedly seized at gunpoint inside the ministry’s premises, which is close to the State’s Accountant General’s Office, where some security personnel were stationed.

Zimbabwe’s Former First Lady dies aged 83

Janet Banana, the widow of Zimbabwe’s first president Canaan Banana has died at the aged of 83, her family announced.

She died at Bulawayo’s Mater Dei Hospital from a kidney ailment, according to her niece Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga.

“She has been battling a kidney ailment for quite some time. She went into the hospital on July 19 and unfortunately we have lost her,” said Misihairabwi-Mushonga.

Sunday Igboho Can Be Killed If Beninese Court Frees Him At This Time – Lawyer

One of the nine lawyers for Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), Olusegun Falola, has said that the activist may be killed if a Beninese court decides to release him at this time while tensions between the Nigerian and Benin Republic governments remain high.
