Third Wave of COVID-19: 2 Deaths, 238 New Cases
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported on Wednesday night that the country has recorded two deaths and 238 new cases.
Lagos State,which still remains the state with the highest case of the virus in Nigeria, recorded 181 new cases, while Akwa Ibom recorded 45, Oyo 8, and Ogun 2. Ekiti and the FCT recorded one each.
This now brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 170,122. 164,476 have recovered, while 2,130 have unfortunately died.
13 dead,12 injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident
Thirteen people have been confirmed dead and twelve others injured in an accident involving an unregistered Volvo truck and a commercial Mazda bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) Babatunde Akinbiyi to Journalists in Abeokuta.
He added that the commercial bus driver that was overloaded with 25 instead of 18 passengers had mistakenly overtaken a moving vehicle, causing him to lose control and crashing into a stopped, defective garbage disposal truck.
Free Sunday Igboho, Nothern Clerics Romancing Bandits- Yoruba Nation Agitators
Yoruba nation agitators on Wednesday, said freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Igboho, should be freed.
They said that Igboho should be given freedom, an investigation he has committed no crime,alleging that just like Northern leaders are “romancing bandits.”
This is in furtherance of their urge to the government of Benin Republic not to extradite Igboho to Nigeria.
HURIWA Endorses Bishop Kukah, lambasts Garba Sheu
Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has lambasted Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, over what they described as unbridled tendencies and unwholesome disrespect shown to Roman Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah.
The group is of the opinion that what the has not said so much to generate such controversy if not that they are in a kind of administration that makes everyone hush their mouth to the truth.
They accused Shehu of using his words carelessly in the rejoinder he issued against Bishop Kukah’s presentation to the American Congress recently.
El-Rufai, Zailani mourn Esu Chikun, Danjuma Barde
The Paramount ruler of Esu Chikun, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, SA Gbaggi, HH Danjuma Barde is dead.
He died in the early hours of Wednesday at the age of 90 in Kaduna.
The State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, describes the monarch as a leader who promoted peace and welcomed the diversity that development and civilization had brought to his chiefdom.
Fayemi: Akeredolu is Courageous
The Ekiti state Governor, Kayode Fayemi has described Rotimi Akeredolu, his Ondo counterpart as a courageous leader.
This he said in a congratulatory statement to Akeredolu who clocked 65 yesterday July 21st 2021.
He further described Akeredolu as “A patriotic Nigerian who is very passionate about one united, peaceful and progressive Nigeria.”
Nigeria Lost N54.1bn on Loans- Senate
The Senate has accused the office of the Accountant General of the Federation for making the Nation loose up to $274.2million on external loans.
The accusation was filed in a report by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, which was approved by the Red Chamber before proceeding to annual recess.
The senate in its conclusion has asked the Accountant General in person if Ahmed Idris to find and sanction the Officers responsible for this outrageous mismanagement of public funds.
Eid-el-Kabir: Bauchi Gov Urges Traditional Rulers to Combat Crimes
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has charged the traditional rulers in the state to join hands with security agencies and the state government in fighting crimes in the state.
He specifically challenged the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Sulaiman, to make sure that Bauchi, the state capital, is free from all forms of crime, and peaceful for the people of the state.
In his words he said, “I am calling on you as a father in Bauchi State to please lend your voice to everyone in the position of authority so that there will be effective security network for peaceful coexistence in the state”.
Bandits Kidnap Bayelsa SSG 90-year Old Mother
Unidentified men who have been suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the mother of the Secretary to the Bayeksa State Govt Mr Kombewie Benson.
Reports gathered that the Old woman was abducted at her old Assembly Quarters Residence in the Yenagoa at around 10pm on Tuesday.
This is the second abduction of Mr Bensons mother as it had happened before in January 2013 and released after ransom was paid.
Two Abducted Bethel Students Rescued
Two of the abducted students of Bethel Baptist Secondary school in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been rescued by the police.
They were rescued on Wednesday evening by police officers in Rijanna area along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, Mohammed Jalige, told Channels Television that the two abducted students have been taken to a police medical facility where they are currently undergoing medical examination.
Ibadan Youths Protest for Igboho Release
Youths in Ibadan have staged a protest in major areas of the state on Wednesday calling for the release of Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba freedom fighter.
They say he is fighting for the course of the masses and has committed no crime and should therefore regain his freedom.
The freedom fighter is being held in Cotonou by the Government of the Republic of Benin after he had earlier escaped arrest in his house at Soka area of Ibadan,Oyo state.
Oyo State Discovers 41 Ghost Workers
The Oyo State Government has discovered 41 employees tagged as “No Show”, a word for ghost workers.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Seyi Makinde, said the discovery was made by the consultants engaged to verify its workforce.
According to the statement, the Implementation Committee of the Oyo State 2019/2020 Civil/Public Servants Audit and Payroll Re-engineering/Validation Exercise discovered the ghost workers.
NDLEA Arrests 2 ladies For Drug Trafficking
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a36-year-old lady, Chioma Afam, who uses multiple identities and wears a hijab to escape security scrutiny in Avenue State.
She was arrested alongside her partner, Peace Chidinma Caleb, 22, for trying to smuggle a total of 296,000 tablets of Diazepam and Exol-5 from Onitsha, Anambra state to Gombe state.

BISHOPS URGE NASS TO PUT NATION’S INTERESTS ABOVE PARTY
Catholic Bishops under Ibadan Province have urged the National Assembly members to put the general interests of Nigerians first before party and selfish interests.
The bishops from Ibadan Archdiocese, Ilorin, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, and Osogbo Dioceses, gave the advice in a communique after their meeting at the Domus Pacis Pastoral Institute, Igoba, Akure, on Wednesday evening.
They expressed their displeasures over the passage of the amended Electoral Act and the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), urged the citizens to challenge the decisions of the lawmakers by all means possible.

A top international ranking body in Turkey,AD Scientific Index Limited, has ranked Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in Oyo State, as the 11th best university in Nigeria.
This was revealed in statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday night in Ibadan.
Fadeyi said that the body rated LAUTECH as the 11th best Nigerian university in its latest world scientist and university rankings for 2021 as a leader among other university in the production of Researchers.

Ooni puts up 28-man committee to investigate Sunday Igboho’s arrest
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) has set up a 28-man committee to look into the arrest of Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho at a Cotonou Airport.
The committee is headed by Prof. Akin Osuntokun and other members which include Segun Awolowo, Doyin Okupe, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Oba Olusola Alao, the Olugbon of Igbon, Sen. Biodun Olujimi and Muyiwa Ige.
The committee will look into the issues surrounding the arrest of Igboho and related matters.
BREAKING: Security operatives commence interrogating Igboho, wife in Benin Republic
A judicial source confirmed to BBC Pidgin that Igboho and his wife, Rope are with operatives of Brigade criminelle in Cotonou.
After the interrogation he will appear before the Cour d’Appel in Cotonou where his extradition will be debated.
If the warrant is defective from the legal or administrative angle, he’ll be referred before the prosecutor but if is found to be in order, he’ll be extradited.
Abaribe says he will stand surety for Kanu again
Senate Minority Leader, Enyinaya Abaribe, on Wednesday, said he would stand surety for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu again given the same circumstances.
The Senator explained he stood surety for Kanu when the IPOB leader was arraigned because it was a condition imposed by the court.
According to him, the court ordered that one of the sureties must be a Senator, and as the Chairman of the Southeast Senators’ Caucus then, he had to offer himself as the surety. He said given the circumstances, he would not hesitate to stand as surety for Kanu again.
