Breaking! Amotekun Commander in Oyo Reportedly Shot Dead
An operative of the South West Security network Amotekun has reportedly been shot dead. The commander of Amotekun in Igboora Ibarapa area of the state was shot by some Gunmen suspected to be herders who stormed the area Friday evening.
There have been earlier reports of attacks on Igangan where an unspecified number of residents were allegedly killed at the outskirts of the town.
A source said that the Amotekun commander,Muri was one of those killed by the gunmen.
NCDC Records 132 New COVID19 Cases
For the fourth day running, Nigeria’s infections cases continued to rise on Friday as the country recorded 132 new cases of coronavirus.
Figures released by the National Center for Disease Control indicated that Lagos recorded 109 new cases while Rivers recorded 16. Other states where infections were reported are as follows: Gombe-3, Katsina-2, FCT-1, Nasarawa-1, 169,206 confirmed cases. 164,666 discharged, 2,126 deaths.
Meanwhile, the NCDC has organized a training workshop for new batch of the National Youths Service Corps members who will report to camps next week. According to the statement, the event is designed to equip the next batch with the required knowledge on how to handle health and safety issues while on camps.

Popular nightlife entrepreneur, Obi Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana has splashed huge $100,000 on a diamond pendant and neckpiece in honour of his late mother, Ezinne Uche Iyiegbu.
Obi Cubana, who lost his mother in December 2020, is in Oba, Anambra State for the funeral ceremony with hundreds of friends, associates and well-wishers.
The 46-year-old chairman of Cubana Group revealed he had to replicate his late mother’s face with gemstones, which is why he opted for a pendent and neckpiece made of pure diamonds.

Nigerian media chiefs have said the media won’t be daunted by the directive of the Federal Government that the media should not divulge “details” of the activities of bandits, terrorists and kidnappers in their reports.
The President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isah; the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo; and the Executive Director, Centre for Media Law and Advocacy, Richard Akinnola; made this known in an interview with The Punch. According to them, the media reports activities and does not create events.
The media veterans made this known while reacting to an order by the National Broadcasting Commission that television and radio stations in Nigeria should not “glamourise the nefarious activities of insurgents” during their daily newspaper reviews.
In his reaction, NGE President, Isah said he agreed with the NBC that broadcast stations should not glamourise the activities of insurgents but stated emphatically that the government could not tell the media how to tailor its reports.
Man detained over alleged sexual assault of 5-year-old
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have detained a 35-year-old man in Kebbi State on suspicion of defiling a five-year-old girl. Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Alhaji Umar Musa-Bala, told reporters in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday that the fleeing suspect was apprehended on July 6.
He noted the suspect was about taking his victim to an unknown destination when members of the community alerted operatives who arrested him.
The commandant urged people of the state to continue to support the corps so as to end all forms of criminality including banditry and kidnapping.
Lagos #EndSARS judicial panel gets another tenure extension
The tenure of the Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other matters has again been extended for another three months.
The Chairman of the panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi stated this while hearing petitions on Friday. This means that the panel will now sit until October 19, a day before the October 20, 2020 shootings at the Lekki toll gate.
At Friday’s sitting, the panel heard eleven petitions. It reserved its decision in six petitions after counsel in the matters adopted their final written addresses.

Mr. Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed they have been denied access to him. Since he was repatriated from Kenya to Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu has been kept in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Speaking with The Nation, Emmanuel said their efforts to see him through a lawyer have been futile.
He said: “We have been denied access to him. We have made several efforts through our lawyer to see him, all to no avail. My brother should be given access to his own private doctor. It is our stand and position.
Maybe they intend to kill him, because I don’t know why they would not allow us access to see him. As we speak, some legal steps are being taken as we don’t believe in the judicial process here, but we will do what we can.”
Niger governor assents to laws recommending death sentence for kidnappers, informants
Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, has assented to some laws in accordance with Section 100(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
Governor Bello said the Kidnapping and Cattle Rustling Special Provisions Law of 2016 is amended to provide for the punishment of informants and all those involved in the aiding and abetting of kidnapping and Cattle Rustling in the state.
He also noted that the Vigilante Amendment Law is meant to invigorate and strengthen the state vigilante corp for better operational efficiency in the discharge of their statutory function of complementing the efforts of our conventional federal security forces.
Oyinlola: Buhari Has Failed, We Didn’t Listen To Obasanjo
Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun State, said Olusegun Obasanjo warned southern leaders in 2015 against endorsing Muhammadu Buhari for the presidency. Oyinlola stated this in a recent interview with BBC Yoruba

Anxiety as Covid-19 third wave hits Lagos GTBank office
As Lagos State grapples with the start of a potential third wave of Coronavirus, TheNewsGuru (TNG) has gathered from authoritative sources that Covid-19 related symptoms has affected a large number of staff of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), located at 42 Oyin Jolayemi St, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to reports,not fewer than 14 confirmed suspected Covid-19 cases were reported in the aforesaid office while a staff member (name withheld) was said to have died after showing symptoms similar to Covid-19, but sources claimed the deceased died of asthma attack.
As fear grew over the possibility of massive spread of the Covid-19 outbreak in the office, the management ordered all the confirmed cases of its personnel to work from home, a measure to possibly check the further spread of the virus in the bank’s outlet.
Anti-Yoruba Nation group postpones protest as heavily armed police officers take over venue in Lagos
The planned anti-secession rally scheduled for Friday in Lagos by a group, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF), has been postponed.
Earlier over a dozen police vehicles, including armoured tanks and water cannons, were stationed around the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos, ahead of the rally.
The group stated the rally was postponed after police intervention and the need to curb COVID-19 spread especially with the new variant and threat of third wave.
YAF National Coordinator, Chief Adesina Animashaun while speaking on the postponement said: “I met with the CP on Thursday afternoon and the reasons he gave for us to postpone the rally are ideal.
Insecurity: Nigeria’s UK envoy meets Igbo, Yoruba leaders in London
The Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Amb. Sarafa Isola, met with eminent Yoruba leaders and Ohaneze Ndigbo in London on Friday to dialogue on current security issues in Nigeria.
The minutes of the meetings, which took place at the Nigerian High Commission office, was e-mailed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Saturday.
The Yoruba and Igbo leaders at the meeting reiterated their beliefs in the unity of Nigeria and the need to preserve it as a corporate entity.
The Igbo leaders called for the enthronement of equity, justice and fairness in the country, where the Igbo would be accorded their rightful position in the Nigeria project.On their part, the Yoruba leaders also spoke on the need for Nigerian unity, adding that the Yoruba people would continue to remain in Nigeria.
INEC shifts physical CVR commencement date nationwide
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjusted the date of the commencement of physical registration for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration from July 19 to July 26, because of the declaration of public holidays by the Federal Government.
Disclosing this in a statement issued by Mr Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, on Friday, in Abuja, the commission said the one-week shift in the date, followed the government’s declaration of July 20 and July 21 as public holidays.
He recalled that on Tuesday, July 13, the commission met with Resident Electoral Commissioners and noted that the commencement of the physical registration of voters scheduled for Monday July 19 might be affected by the public holidays.

Blasphemy: Kano Islamic Cleric, Abduljabbar Arrested
A controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara has been arrested and charged to court for alleged blasphemy and incitement.
The embattled Sheikh Kabara was charged to court for statements mortifying the companions and sacrilegious to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba indicated that the development followed the receipt of the First Information Report, FIR, from the police by the Office of the Attorney General and commissioner for justice which prepared charges that included blasphemy, incitement, and sundry offences were mentioned against the cleric.

he Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Friday deliberated on the commencement of the physical registration of voters as well as the scheduled appointments by online registrants and announced a new date for the exercise.

Army Says Final Farewell To Slain Maj General Hassan Ahmed
Maj.-Gen. Hassan Ahmed, former Provost Marshal of the Nigeria Army who was killed on Thursday, has been buried in Abuja.
Ahmed was buried on Friday with full military colours and compliments at the Guards Brigade Cemetery, Lungi Barracks, Abuja, in accordance with Islamic rites.The ceremony took place amidst tears by family members and colleagues.
